The Prime Rib Band

Prime Rib Band with guest saxophonist Joel Frahm

Tonight the Festival streamed a promo video of Ottawa’s own Prime Rib Band with special guest saxophonist and grammy winner, Joel Frahm.  The song, Crunch, is a track from the band’s latest album, Choice Cuts. I’m guessing Ed really likes meat because of the album name choice and stating he named his band “ Prime Rib” since he considers to have the “ best players in the city.”

Host James Hale, from OLG Live Chats, interviewed Ed Lister, and Joel Frahm before the festival streamed the band’s promo video

When asked how his experience was recording remotely, Frahm confessed that it was something new for him and said “ if there is one good thing that came out of the pandemic, I’ve had to learn this new skill.

Frahm also expressed that although it was a challenge to record remotely, it is well worth it for him to compromise in order to continue to bring music to people. This being a priority as he considers it to be “essential.”

Recording remotely for Lister on the other hand is not something foreign to him, it is actually something he said he is very anxious to continue with. He collaborates with musicians all over the world and often using sample exchange via the virtual path. Lister, originally from the UK, started playing the trumpet at the early age of 10 and professionally at age of 15.  He formed his 12 member band  in Ottawa and has been settled there for over a decade now.

The band’s video is has some nice sleek  graphics that synced well with the music. It sounds studio quality and its fantastic to have supper while listening AND watching a great jazz band!
